Pocketful of Sunshine

Spreading sunshine and happiness to a sick child one pillowcase at a time!

Averee Anne

My name is Averee Anne and I'm 11 years old.  I have just started my 8th year of 4 H.  In 2010 one of my 4 H projects was sewing.  My mom taught me how to sew.  For my 9th birthday I got a Bernina sewing machine.  The first thing I made on my new sewing machine was a pillowcase.  I really enjoyed making it.

My grandma Jean passed away from cancer right before Thanksgiving in 2010.   I know she did not have a lot of days that were good.  My mom and I had been trying to think of something we could do for cancer patients.  We wanted to do something that could give them a little sunshine and happiness while they are not having good days.

This is how Pocketful of Sunshine came about.  I liked sewing pillowcases and I really wanted to help make someones day a little brighter.  I decided to make pillowcases for children.   My goal is to sew as many pillowcases as possible to help make a sick child's a little better.

My goal for the first year was to make 57 pillowcases each month.  That is 684 pillowcases for the year!  I really hope I can get that done and I did!!  That was 684 people that I  helped make their day just a little better!
